NDRRMC: 2 perished due to monsoon rains

Two individuals reportedly perished due to the southeast monsoon, enhanced by Tropical Cyclone Dodong, that caused heavy rains and floods in several parts of the country, the National Disaster Risk Reduction And Management Council (NDRRMC) reported on Wednesday.

According to its latest data issued at 8 AM, the two death tolls are still being verified.

Meanwhile, the total number of affected individuals has reached 24,008 families or 85,584 individuals in Ilocos Region, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, and Western Visayas.

Of this, 757 families, or 3,067 individuals are taking shelter inside 58 evacuation centers while 1,421 families, or 5,992 individuals are staying outside evacuation centers, with their family members and friends.

Twelve Municipalities have experienced power interruption — 10 have been restored and 2 others are still interrupted.

Only one municipality in the Ilocos region experienced water supply disruption.

About ₱1.65 million worth of assistance has been distributed to the affected regions.

Among the assistance were family food packs, hygiene kits, kitchen kits, and sleeping kits.

The NDRRMC also estimated that 449.6 hectares of crop area worth ₱6.166 million might be damaged due to the monsoon.

The state weather bureau is currently monitoring a low-pressure area (LPA) inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), in the east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur.

PAGASA said LPA and Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) are bringing rains over Mindanao region.
