Two individuals reportedly died in Cagayan province during the onslaught of tropical depression Maymay, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMO) reported on Thursday, Oct. 13.

In its 11 am update, PDRRMO said one fisherfolk was found dead in Buguey town. While one fisherfolk, who went missing, also perished in the town of Santa Ana.

PDRRMO chief Ruelie Rapsings said the two men drowned after they went fishing in the sea despite a gale warning imposed early Monday.

The PDRRMO said 4,867 families or 17,673 individuals have been affected by tropical depression Maymay.

A total of 110 barangays from 14 municipalities in Cagayan province were reportedly flooded.

The agency advised light vehicles to refrain from passing the following roads: Bulo-Gagaddangan road; Capanickian Sur provincial road; Capagaran-Capalutan road; Capanickian Sur zone 1 and 2; Daan-ili-Pacac municipal road; and Binubongan-Dalayap road in the town of Allacapan.

Other roads included are Barangay Tucalana road; Malinta road; parts of Sitio Butac road; and Dungan-Nanungaran-Anungu-Anurturu-Minanga road in the town of Rizal.

In PAGASA’s 11 am Tropical cyclone bulletin as of Oct. 13, tropical depression Maymay weakened into a low pressure area.

“Today through tomorrow early morning, moderate to heavy with at times intense rains over Cagayan, Isabela, and Apayao. Light to moderate with at times heavy rains over the rest of Cagayan Valley and Cordillera Administrative Region,” the state weather bureau said.

All the hoisted Tropical wind signals were lifted but PAGASA said Batanes, Cagayan, Cordillera Administrative Region, and Ilocos Region may still experience “occasional gusts reaching strong to gale-force strength associated with the enhanced northeasterly surface windflow especially in the coastal and mountainous areas.”

Based on the weather bureau’s forecast, the circulation of Maymay was “track westward towards Aurora” and “may dissipate within 12 hours.”
