Four areas were placed under Signal No. 1 as Tropical Storm Goring slightly intensified while accelerating at a slow rate, the state weather bureau said on Friday, August 25.
In its 5 AM bulletin, PAGASA said Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 1 is hoisted in the following areas:
- Batanes
- Eastern portion of Babuyan Islands (Babuyan Island, Camiguin Island)
- Eastern portion of mainland Cagayan (Santa Ana, Gonzaga, Lal-Lo, Gattaran, Baggao, Peñablanca)
- Northeastern portion of Isabela (Maconacon, Divilacan, Palanan)
The aforementioned areas may experience minimal to minor impacts from strong winds, the state weather bureau noted.
As of 4 AM, PAGSA tracked Goring 220 kilometers (km) East Southeast of Basco, Batanes.
The tropical storm is packed with maximum sustained winds of 75 km per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 90 kph while heading slowly toward Southwestward.
“GORING is forecast to move south southwestward or southward over the waters east of Northern Luzon until tomorrow afternoon, then turn southeastward for the rest of tomorrow through Sunday afternoon,” PAGASA said.
It said that Goring is foreseen to move to Luzon Strait by next Tuesday, August 29.
The state weather bureau noted that Goring will continue to move slowly throughout the forecast period.
The areas of Batanes, Babuyan Islands, and the northeastern portion of mainland Cagayan are forecasted to experience heavy rainfall of 50-100 mm on Friday.
PAGASA issued a gale warning over the coastal waters of Batanes, Babuyan, and the northern coast of mainland Cagayan “due to strong winds associated with GORING which may cause sea travel to be risky for certain types or tonnage of vessels.”
Meanwhile, state weather bureau said that Goring will enhance the southwest monsoon, and bring occasional rains over the western portion of Visayas on Friday.
The western portions of Central Luzon and Southern Luzon will also experience rain due to enhanced southwest monsoon.
