The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) Monday, March 20, released a total of 401 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs).

Based on BuCor’s record, of the 401 inmates, 169 were freed through parole, 65 were acquitted, 10 were granted probation, 4 acquitted due to pending cases, and one acquitted for rehabilitation.

Other inmates were released through the following modes:

  • Expiration of maximum sentence with Good Conduct Time Allowance (GCTA) (Returnee) - 1

  • Expiration of maximum sentence with GCTA to Bureau of Immigration - 1

  • Expiration of maximum sentence with GCTA (D.O 652) - 14

  • Expiration of maximum sentence with GCTA - 106

  • Expiration of maximum sentence with GCTA/Turnover for counseling - 2

  • Expiration of maximum sentence with GCTA/Turnover due to pending case - 13

  • Expiration of maximum sentence with GCTA/Turnover for rehab - 15

In his speech during the PDL's culminating activity, Remulla said the justice department would create a rule that will free inmates who are 80 years old and above.

"Hindi lang iyan, 'yung may mga sakit, mga lumpo na, mga bulag na. Maharil, dapat din na dumating ang oras na sila ay pakawalan habang may buhay pa sa kanilang mga katawan," he added.
