Maj. Gen. Benjamin Acorda Jr., the newly appointed head of the Philippine National Police (PNP), has outlined his vision for the police force under his leadership, aiming to position them as "vanguards of peace."
Acorda, who previously served as the director for intelligence, took over the top PNP post upon the retirement of his predecessor, Gen. Rodolfo Azurin Jr., who reached the mandatory retirement age.
He is the 29th PNP chief and the second appointed by Marcos.
The new PNP chief expressed his unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety and economic stability of the community during his tenure and assured the public that the PNP will serve as the 'vanguards of peace to ensure a safe and economically stable community'.
In his recent speech, Acorda stated that the PNP will be a reliable partner in securing a peaceful and crime-free environment.
"Together we will overcome the challenges the organization is facing. Together, we will prove that the PNP serves with dignity and professionalism. As your humble servant I will do my best and lead by example," he said.
Acorda has held significant roles such as chief of counterintelligence and security division of the DI, Regional Intelligence Division chief of the National Capital Region Police Office, and Explosive Management Division Chief of the Civil Security Group.
He is slated to retire on December 3 of this year, upon reaching the retirement age of 56.
