Albay Public Safety and Emergency Management Office (APSEMO) Head Dr. Cedric D. Daep proposed the strengthening and enhancement of danger zone markers to effectively indicate the risks within the 6-kilometer Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) of Mayon Volcano.
In a recent post-recovery cluster meeting held by the local government of Albay, the official noted that it is crucial to have visible and easily noticeable markers that will serve as a constant reminder to the public of the potential dangers when they are inside the PDZ.
APSEMO will coordinate with the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) to ensure the smooth implementation of this initiative.
Earlier this year, APSEMO conducted digital mapping for residents living around the vicinity of Mount Mayon.
The Geographic Information System (GIS) mapping and assessment aimed to identify the vulnerability of the area and potential damages that may occur during calamities.
The local government of Albay clarified that these installations will be carried out whenever the volcano's alert level is lowered to level 1.
