The third instalment of TBA Studios’ “Bayaniverse” will begin production this coming March!
On Thursday, January 16, the company announced that the production of its highly-anticipated biographical historical film, “Quezon,” is set to begin production in March. The best part? They're targeting a theatrical release later this year!
According to the company, “Quezon” will be the sequel to box office hits “Heneral Luna” and “Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral.”
It will follow the life of the late President Manuel L. Quezon, a Filipino lawyer and soldier who won the presidential seat against then-President Emilio Aguinaldo. The film would detail the tumultuous presidential campaign against the latter and his time as the President of the Commonwealth of the Philippines from 1935 to 1944.
Acclaimed writer-director Jerrold Tarog will be returning to lead the project.
TBA Studios President and COO Daphne Chiu said the film will be released locally and worldwide. Additionally, “Quezon” will be produced as a stand-alone film. This means the movie will exist within the same cinematic continuity of TBA Studios’ previous historical films, “Heneral Luna” and “Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral,” but will be made accessible for filmgoers who have not seen the film’s predecessors.
The film is supported by the Philippine government agencies National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP).
Meanwhile, casting for the movie’s major and supporting roles is currently underway and will be announced soon, TBA Studios said. According to Chiu, the cast will feature names that will “surprise and excite” audiences and hardcore fans of the Bayaniverse.
“Quezon” will be the company’s major film production since 2020.
