The beloved Emmy and BAFTA award-winning animated series that captured the hearts (and accents) of children across the globe, is set to have its first-ever feature film debut in 2027.
For its creation, BBC Studios and the Walt Disney Company are teaming up for the award-winning series, Bluey’s film debut. According to Disney’s press release on Tuesday, December 17, the film will continue the adventures of Bluey, the “loveable, inexhaustible, blue heeler dog, who lives with her Mum, Dad, and her little sister, Bingo.”
2024's top series on streaming platforms will be released under the Disney banner. Following its theatrical release, it will be available to stream on Disney+
Bluey director and writer, Joe Brumm, will focus on its creation, promising to deliver the same charm and humor that made it a global phenomenon.
“I enjoyed the experience of working with a longer format on The Sign in Series 3, so going even further with a feature film feels like a natural extension of that. I’ve always thought Bluey deserved a theatrical movie,” Brumm said.
“I want this to be an experiential event for the whole family to enjoy together. I’m excited to continue to partner with Cecilia Persson, Tom Fussell and the team at BBC Studios, and Dana Walden, Alan Bergman and Disney to bring this new Bluey story to the big screen,” he added.
Upon its release in theatres worldwide, it will be streamed on Disney+ and will also air on ABC iView and ABC Kids in Australia post-theatrical release.
As the most-watched series on streaming this year, Bluey garnered over a million viewers worldwide. It has been recognized for its charm and gentle take on big conversations for kids.
