The demolition of housing units under the Bagong Lipunan Sites and Services (BLISS) project in Brgy. Pasong Tamo, Quezon City stemmed from a memorandum order issued in 2022 according to Task Force Control, Prevention and Removal of Illegal Structures and Squatting (COPRISS).
Voltaire Alcantara of Task Force COPRISS said on Tuesday, April 23, that building officials found the housing structures to be 'ruinous and dangerous'.
"Ang kaso rito ay hindi yung ownership. Ang kaso rito ay yung ruinous and dangerous building," Alcantara told DZRH.
The residents voiced their opposition against the demolition of the housing structures, and accused the local government of being manipulated by a private entity who allegedly seeks to claim the area.
The residents also revealed that they have an ongoing court hearing regarding the demolition order.
Meanwhile, Alcantara admitted that the local government cannot provide a relocation site for the residents because they refused to take part in a census.
"Ni-refuse nila," Alcantara stressed.
The BLISS housing project launched in 1981 during the term of the late President Ferdinand Marcos Sr., and under the overview of then-First Lady and Minister of Human Settlement Imelda Marcos.
