Senator Christopher “Bong” Go appealed to the Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) for a widespread information drive to brief Filipinos on the healthcare benefits they can avail of under the Universal Health Care (UHC) law.
He noted an incident wherein a woman passed away on the street giving birth to her child. A nurse had assisted the birth, but the baby was stillborn and its mother refused hospitalization, fearing major expenses.
According to Go, the woman’s apprehension stemmed from insufficient awareness. As Chair of the Senate Committee on Health and Demography, he called attention to the need to educate the public on the wide range of government-funded healthcare options they have been granted.
PhilHealth has sent Go’s office a “commitment letter” promising to boost its awareness campaign.
