Less than a week before Christmas, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) issued a reminder to be on the look-out for fake money.
In a report by RH 29 Boy Gonzales, the BSP advised people who are doubtful as to the authenticity of cash received to bring these to the nearest bank or BSP branch, so that personnel may check whether these truly are genuine or counterfeit money.
There are 20 BSP branches and five regional offices across the Philippines.
They added that cash recipients themselves may also check the money’s security features such as the embossed printing for “REPUBLIKA NG PILIPINAS” and the bill’s denominational value, asymmetric serial number, blue and red security fibers, among others.
The BSP stressed that they want no one to fall victim to fake money.
