The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) detected another phreatic eruption Bulusan Volcano on Sunday morning.
The eruption was recorded at 3:37 a.m. and lasted 18 minutes, according to PHIVOLCS.
"A phreatic eruption was detected by the Bulusan Volcano Network at 3:37 AM this morning. The event lasted 18 minutes based on the seismic record but the eruption plume was not visible in camera monitors," said the agency in a statement.
Sorsogon Governor Francis Escudero said in a series of tweets that several barangays in the municipalities of Juban, Casiguran, and Magallanes reported ashfall in their areas.
"Only two barangays (Bacolod and Rangas) in Juban suffered from heavy ashfall. Checkpoints are up to warn motorists of nearly zero visibility due to the ash along Maharlika highway. Clean up is on-going," he said.
Escudero added that Disaster Risk Reduction & Management Offices (DRRMO) of the affected localities have been activated to start evacuation and launch clean up initiatives.
"DRRMOs of affected municipalities as well as that of the province have been activated to evacuate vulnerable people, check for respiratory concerns, and immediately start clean up with elements of the BFP (Bureau of Fire Protection), AFP (Armed Forces of the Philippines), PNP (Philippine National Police) and via our food-for-work program."
Alert Level 1 remains up over Bulusan Volcano, according to PHIVOLCS, which means it is currently in abnormal condition. The alert level was first raised a week ago, after its first phreatic eruption.
PHIVOLCS also reminded the local government units and the public that entry to the four-kilometer Permanent Danger Zone is strictly prohibited, while vigilance should be maintained in the two-kilometer Extended Danger Zone on the southeast sector due to higher chances of "sudden and hazardous phreatic eruptions."
