Capiz reports 60 cases of Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease
by John Dexter Tilo03 March 2022

The Capiz Provincial Health Office (PHO) reported 60 cases of Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease (HFDM) as of February 25.

HFDM is a viral infection that is common among children under 10 years old, according to the PHO, where symptoms include fluid-filled blisters appearing on the hands, feet, and mouth of the infected, who may or may not be experiencing fever.

"It is transmitted through droplets or direct contact with nasal discharges, saliva, feces, and fluid from the rashes of an infected individual," said the PHO in a statement, signed by Provincial Health Officer II Ramon Nolasco.

Nolasco urged the public to immediately report to authorities if their children are exhibiting symptoms of the disease.

"We would like to appeal to fellow Capiznons to inform your Barangay Health Care Workers or the Local Health Offices if your children experience symptoms mentioned above," the official urged.

Nolasco said the Capiz Epidemiological Surveillance and Response Unit is already carrying out field investigation with the Department of Health and local government units in the province to trace HFDM cases and prevent its complications.

The official added they are also conducting health awareness and health education campaigns to stamp out the transmission of the disease.

"As a preventive measure, kindly maintain proper hygiene and basic sanitation at all times," he advised.
