House QuadCom cites Cassandra Ong in contempt again, orders detention at correctional facility
by Mary Antalan20 September 2024

The House Quad Committee has cited Cassandra Ong in contempt for the second time and approved her detention at the Correctional Institution for Women (CIW) in Mandaluyong City.

This came after Ong refused to answer a question about her schooling during a House inquiry led by Rep. Joseph Stephen Paduano.

"The motion is approved. She is now cited in contempt for the second time," said Surigao del Norte Rep. Robert Ace Barbers.

Meanwhile, Rep. Romeo Acop suggested transferring Ong to the CIW if the House detention facilities were full, a motion the committee approved with no objections.

Ong had previously been cited in contempt on August 28 for refusing to testify but later cooperated, resulting in her temporary release. The QuadCom is investigating POGO-related crimes, extrajudicial killings, and illegal drugs.

The committee also issued a show-cause order to Mylah Roque, wife of former presidential spokesperson Harry Roque, in connection with his ongoing detention for refusing to submit documents about his wealth.

Ong has been accused of lying about her medical condition, and Rep. Janette Garin labeled her a "pathological liar" during the hearing, citing her inconsistent statements about her health.

Ong’s lawyer, Atty. Ferdinand Topacio said she was willing to be jailed to avoid further humiliation.
