Senator Alan Peter Cayetano supported the executive order banning e-sabong operations nationwide, calling it a 'necessary step'.

On December 28, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. issued EO No. 9 which states "an urgent need to reiterate the continued suspension of all e-sabong operations nationwide, clarify the scope of existing regulations and direct relevant agencies to pursue aggressive crackdown against illegal e-sabong operations, in accordance with the law.”

Cayetano said that this will prevent the negative consequences of online gambling, such as addiction and financial ruin.

The senator is known for taking a firm stand against allowing e-sabong operations since Congress granted its license in 2021.

"Bukod sa mga epekto nito sa mga pamilya, may link din ang e-sabong sa krimen tulad ng pagdukot sa 34 sabungero na January 2021 pa nawala. It is imperative that we do everything in our power to prevent such tragedies from occurring. Kailangan nating maseguro ang kaligtasan ng ating mga kababayan," he said, citing the harmful effects of such gambling to the lives of Filipinos.

Likewise, Cayetano also encouraged religious groups to help educate people on its negative effect.
