Cebu Mayor Michael Rama said that the city is close to achieving its herd immunity target as more people line up to get vaccinated against COVID-19.

"We will be able to reach our 700,000 herd immunity soon enough," Rama told DZRH in an interview.

According to the local executive, 452,42 or 62% of the city's population is already fully vaccinated, while 668,029 or 95% received their first dose.

The number of vaccinated individuals has increased thanks to the national vaccination drive and various efforts from the city council, according to the mayor.

"We were given a target of 32,000 per day, and thank god … we made it. Congratulations sa lahat," Rama said on the national vaccination drive targets.

To boost vaccination rates, the city has begun opening pop-up vaccination sites for people with disabilities and senior citizens. They are also going from house to house to administer the vaccines to the said sectors.

"The way to liberation is vaccination," the mayor said.

Meanwhile, among government efforts to urge more people to get vaccinated is a grand raffle later this month.

Rama said a brand new car, house and lot, motorcycle, up to P1 million worth of gift certificates, televisions, radios, and sacks of rice are up for grabs in the said raffle.
