The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) admitted that rotating personnel at the New Bilibid Prison proved to be ineffective in resolving the issue of illegal drugs within the facility.
According to DILG Secretary Jonvic Remulla, no matter how strict the measures are, the drug trade continues to operate within the facility, and gadgets still manage to enter.
Remulla stated that this has become a system at the NBP, which is why the government is exploring new approaches, as changing personnel has not yielded any results.
"Systemic na 'yung problema sa loob ng Muntinlupa. So they're trying a new approach," said Remulla.
He added that even if the gadgets are removed, new ones would find their way inside the facility after just two weeks.
"So, evidently there's something wrong within the system and changing personnel is not the answer," he added.
Furthermore, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. himself is aware of the situation in the prison, which is why he ordered the transfer of those involved in the illegal drug trade to other locations.
A thorough investigation is also underway to hold those involved accountable, including their accomplices in the detention facility, from jail guards to supervisory personnel.
