Senator Francis "Chiz" Escudero on Thursday responded to the viral video where First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos was seen grabbing his wine glass and sipping it during Vin d'Honneur for the 126th Anniversary of Philippine Independence at Malacañang Palace.
Escudero believes what he did was an act of being "gentlemanly".
"I consider waiting on a lady (first or otherwise) to be gentlemanly," Escudero said when asked for comment on the viral video posted on X (formerly Twitter).
"Maaaring sabihin ng iba na makaluma o parang 'under' pero para sa'kin, hindi kailanman magiging makaluma o 'di uso, anuman ang itawag ng iba, ang pagiging maginoo at pakikipag-kapwa tao," he added.
Based on the video, the Senate Chief was seen holding a glass of wine with other guests when President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and the First Lady joined them.
The First Lady approached Escudero and unexpectedly took a sip from his wine glass.
She later returned the rest of the wine to Escudero.
