The city governments of Navotas and Malabon have suspended classes on Monday, August 5, due to the anticipated 1.8-meter high tide caused by the continuous rains from the Southwest Monsoon, or Habagat.

"Kaugnay ng 1.9 metrong high tide mamayang 11:22AM at tuloy-tuloy na pag-ulan dahil sa habagat, inirekomenda ng ating Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office na #WalangPasok sa lahat ng antas ng mga pampubliko at pribadong paaralan sa ating lungsod ngayong araw, 5 August 2024," Navotas City Mayor John Rey Tiangco announced via Facebook.

Similarly, Malabon City Mayor Jeannie Sandoval has also announced the suspension of classes at all levels in response to the recommended precautionary measures from the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.

It is worth noting that Typhoon Carina previously damaged the floodgate of the Malabon-Navotas River. This floodgate, crucial for managing the water flow between Manila Bay and the two cities, was compromised when a barge entered the area during low tide.

On Tuesday, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Acting Chair Don Artes stated that flooding is expected to persist in Malabon and Navotas, as the damaged floodgate remains under repair.
