Voters registration will remain suspended in areas under modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) amid the threat of the COVID-19, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said Friday.
The poll body, likewise, reminded voters in areas under general community quarantine (GCQ) and modified enhanced community quarantine (MGCQ) that the voters' registration has been extended from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, including Saturdays and holidays, starting August 23.
"In areas under ECQ and MECQ where voter registration is suspended, the new registration schedule will automatically take effect once the quarantine classification is downgraded to General Community Quarantine (GCQ) or MGCQ," its statement read.
The Comelec earlier rejected the calls of extending the deadline of voter registration from September 30 to October 30, 2021, instead.
On Thursday, Malacañang announced that Metro Manila and Laguna province will be under modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) starting Saturday, August 21, 20221 until August 31, 2021.
Bataan will also be under MECQ starting Monday, August 23, 2021, until the end of the month.
