Group Samahang Industriya ng Agrikultura (SINAG) said that the Bureau of Customs (BOC) has halted the entry of corn shipments to the Philippines.
SINAG chairperson Rosendo So connected the move to the order of the Court of Appeals for the University of the Philippines-Los Baños (UPLB) and the Philippine Rice Research Institute to cease and desist any activities related to Bt eggplant, and Golden Rice.
In a 143-page decision dated April 17, the CA Fourth Division granted the petition for a writ of kalikasan filed by Magsasaka At Siyentipiko para sa Pag-Unlad Agrikultura (Masipag), Greenpeace Southeast Asia (Greenpeace), and other petitioners.
The court also revoked the biosafety permits for commercial propagation of Golden Rice and BT Eggplant.
"Iyon ang isang problem ngayon. Yung mga shipment ng corn na dumadating ay hino-hold ng Customs," So said on Thursday, April 25, during DZRH's Magandang Umaga Pilipinas.
"Malaking problem iyon at, kung hindi natin ipapasok iyon, lahat ng ating pagkain ay may problema," So stressed.
So urged the Court of Appeals to clarify whether the order also covers other genetically modified crops, or products that used Bt technology.
"Kailangan i-clarify lahat kasi, kung hindi, yung mga hybrid na rice, lahat ay hindi rin pwede iyan," So said.
