The Department of Environment and Natural Resources Region 2 (DENR) started its investigation over the landslide in the Sierra Madre mountain range that went viral online.

According to DENR Regional Director Gwendolyn Bambalan, the agency and the Mines and Geosciences Bureau have formed an investigation team to identify the cause of the landslide.

Members of the Agta group will also be joining the investigation team to help them navigate the area.

The team is expected to arrive at the landslide site on Friday, according to the DENR.

The investigation came after a photo showing a huge landslide on the Sierra Madre went viral online.

Initial information that reached Bambalan's team said a crater was allegedly formed on top of the mountain thanks to strong rains.

The said crater was responsible for the landslide, according to Bambalan in a media release.

To verify this information, the DENR has tapped the Armed Forces of the Philippines Isabela to carry out an aerial survey around the area.
