The Department of Education (DepEd) introduced new provisions for implementing DepEd Order (DO) No. 010, s. 2024 or the Policy Guidelines on the Implementation of the MATATAG Curriculum.
The revised amendment order was issued on Wednesday, September 18. Under its revision and implementation, the sector revised its issuance to DO No. 012, s. 2024. According to DepEd, additional provisions were introduced to accommodate the different contexts of schools, specifically for Grades 3 to 10.
The order provides schools with flexibility in implementing the MATATAG Curriculum considering contexts like; typology, curricular program offerings, and the availability of teachers and classrooms.
Under DO No. 012, the additional provisions for Part V. (the MATATAG Curriculum) Paragraph 35 are:
All learning areas for 45 minutes a day each for five days, and the Homeroom Guidance Program for 45 minutes once a week;
Learning areas may be given uniform time allotments of 50, 55, and 60 per learning area.
The time for each learning area will be given according to the allocated days it will be taught per week.
With the order’s flexibility, schools may propose other combinations provided, given that it follows the standard rules. However, each proposal is still subject to the approval of each school's authorized representative.
The institutions are also subject to ensuring fair and equitable distribution of teaching loads, including the protection of the teachers’ welfare.
Additionally, the DepEd wrote that all remaining provisions not affected by the amendments shall remain in effect; while other existing orders and related issuances with inconsistencies are repealed or modified accordingly.
The revised Order will immediately take effect upon its approval, issuance, and publication on the DepEd website and registration with the Office of the National Administrative Register (ONAR) in Quezon City.
