The Department of Education (DepEd) and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), in collaboration with Thames International School, signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) on Thursday, for the new specialized senior high school track.
The collaboration between departments and Thames allows the students to keep up with the rapid growth of the world’s digital economy. Through the E-Commerce Track, students would acquire skills related to online marketing, digital product development, and customer service.
By fostering an entrepreneurial mindset, students will be encouraged to think creatively and innovatively. This initiative will open them up to the demands of e-commerce in the global marketplace.
“This collaboration to launch the e-commerce track for senior high school students is a testament to our shared commitment to nurturing the next generation of Filipino entrepreneurs and digital leaders. The DTI has consistently prioritized equipping Filipinos with the skills needed to thrive in the digital economy,” DTI Secretary Fred Pascual said.
Thames, being the leading provider of business education in the country, contributed to the track’s development; Fulfilling DepEd’s initial aim of helping senior high school students of landing and secure jobs after graduating from the Grade 12 level. This also aligns with DTI’s commitment to empowering Filipinos with digital skills through programs like the Pivot Embrace Technology (PET) Project and Oplan TLC.
The newly introduced track is targeted to launch in the upcoming school year and will be piloted in 15 senior high schools in the National Capital Region (NCR), with plans for future nationwide expansion.
The senior high school program in the Philippines currently offers tracks in academic, arts and design, sports, and technical-vocational-livelihood. The inclusion of the newly proposed track is part of the ongoing review and revision of the senior high school curriculum.
It is still under review and redevelopment by DepEd.
