The cybersecurity response team of the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) on Monday warned the public from registering on a site posing to be the newly rebuilt Friendster.

This comes after a Facebook post claiming that “Friendster is back” and luring individuals to “sign up” in a link, went viral last week.

“The “new” Friendster appears to be a legitimate website but upon initial investigation, the current IP address hosting the website (23.106.120.84) had previous reports about phishing, brute force, and DDoS attacks, hacking, and host exploitations,” DICT Philippines National Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-PH) said in a statement.

The team added that the site has no “About Us” page identifying the website developer, and it utilizes a non-social networking platform WordPress.

DICT CERT-PH advised the public to not register on the said site so that their data would be breached or stolen.

“Do not click suspicious links to avoid future potential threats,” it added.

The cybersecurity team further suggested "providing and capacitating employees with cybersecurity knowledge and information to minimize threats.”
