More than 40 million mobile users nationwide have registered their Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) cards as of March 5, the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) said on Monday.
In a statement, DICT said this is 23.97 percent of the 168 million total SIM card holders in the country.
Citing data from the three telecommunication companies, it said that 20,630,475 out of 67,995,734 subscribers of SMART Communications Inc. are completely registered.
Meanwhile, Globe Telecommunication Inc. recorded 16,788,804 registered subscribers, which is 19.11 percent of their total subscribers of 87,873,936.
The DITO Telecommunity Corp., on the other hand, reported that 3,079,045 subscribers have registered. This is 23.49 percent of DITO's 13,108,103 total subscribers.
DICT Undersecretary and spokesperson Anna Mae Yu Lamentillo reminded the public that they still have 51 days before the deadline for SIM registration, set for April 26.
"Hinihikayat namin ang mga subscriber at end-user ng ating mga PTE na magrehistro dahil papalapit na ang deadline. Upang makaiwas sa trapiko ng mga magpaparehistro at para na rin sa mabilis na proseso, hinihikayat namin ang publiko na magrehistro sa pinakamadaling panahon," she said.
