PBGen. Anthony Aberin is slated to take over as Director of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), replacing PMGen. Sidney Hernia.
Prior to his new role, Aberin was the director of the Police Regional Office (PRO) - Central Visayas.
In an exclusive interview with DZRH's Special on Saturday, Aberin stated that upon assuming the position, he will refocus the NCRPO on the basics, emphasizing the Philippine National Police's (PNP) primary role in crime prevention and resolution.
"When we say prevention, dapat maging aggressive po ang ating police visibility sa kalsada. I-ddeploy po natin lahat ng mga available personnel po natin sa kalsada kasi, although may mga CCTVs tayo tapos may mga technology, ‘yung presence po ng mga pulis natin sa mga kalsada ay wala pong substitute po doon," Aberin said.
"While we observe the basics, dapat po they must adhere fully po ‘yung police operational procedure. Kasi most of the time po ang nangyayari doon po tayo sumasablay," he added.
Aberin believes that if the NCRPO focuses on crime prevention, crime resolution, and adherence to proper police procedures, he is confident that the police force in NCRPO will not fail.
Furthermore, he pledged to conduct inspections in a more humane manner and emphasized that, even without media presence, these inspections will still take place.
He explained that this measure would better protect the integrity and honor of the police officers.
Furthermore, he firmly stated that police officers engaging in misconduct or corruption will not be tolerated, ensuring due process for those involved.
"We will do our best to make NCR a safe and peaceful place to live in," said Aberin.
Meanwhile, the schedule for the turnover has not been set and is yet to be announced.
PMGen. Hernia was initially placed on administrative relieve for 10 days, which was later extended for an additional five days.
He is set to assume the position of commander of the Area Police Command (APC) - Southern Luzon.
Along with him, Anti-Cybercrime Group Chief Maj. Gen. Ronnie Francis Cariaga was also relieved from his position in connection with the raid on an alleged scam hub in Manila.
One of the issues raised regarding the conducted operation was the allegation of extortion and tampering with security cameras by PNP officers.
