The Department of Justice (DOJ) confirmed on Monday, June 18, that the extradition hearing of former Negros Oriental Representative Arnolfo Teves, Jr., has concluded.

In a statement, Usec. Margarita Gutierez said both parties were given time to submit their respective memoranda or position papers outlining their arguments and positions, which were "sequential".

In line with this, the Timor-Leste Central Authority "will have to submit first its Memorandum/Position Paper followed by Teves camp."

Gutierez said Timor-Leste's decision would come by or be close to the end of June.

"The DOJ is optimistic that a favorable decision will be made by the Court of Appeals, particularly as our witnesses were able to effectively counter the arguments raised by the camp of Teves."

On June 13, the DOJ announced that the Prosecutor General's Office of Timor-Leste had officially placed Teves under house arrest.

The DOJ also called out the camp of Teves to stop 'dilly-dallying' and just deal with the charges filed against the expelled lawyer.
