Colder days are coming as state weather bureau PAGASA officially announced the beginning of the ‘Amihan Season.'

This was confirmed by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) in a statement on Thursday, October 20.

For the past several days, strong to gale-force northeasterly winds have prevailed over Northern Luzon due to the strengthening of the high pressure system over Siberia," PAGASA Administrator Vicente Malano said.

"Moreover, gradual cooling of the surface air temperature over the northeastern part of Luzon has been observed. These meteorological conditions indicate the onset of Northeast Monsoon (Amihan) season in the country," he added.

Malanonoted that because of these advances, Northern Luzon will be conquered by the northeast wind flow, breezing in cold and dry air.

Expect the rise of cold temperatures in the upcoming months, he continued.

Meanwhile, the state weather bureau also warned about flash floods and landslides as Amihan can strengthen La Nina, therefore all concerned government agencies should be prepared for such events.
