The Department of Transportation on Friday insisted that the supply and capacity of public transportation will remain as is when Metro Manila and other nearby areas will revert to Enhance Community Quarantine starting August 6.

In an exclusive interview in DZRH’s Commuter Corner, DOTr Sec. Arthur Tugade mentioned that their agency’s initial decision is to make public transportation available to the public. Based from their past experiences when ECQ was first implemented, the commuting public took a beating in finding means of public transport.

This time, with the guidance of the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases, wherein they were given the mandate to decide on measures they will be implementing during ECQ, Tugade and his transport team is assuring the public that there will be continued supply and enough capacity for public transport.

However, they will have to strictly implement health protocols and social distancing in order to avoid the spread of the CoVid19 virus.

Tugade reiterates that this is just their initial assessment and it will still depend once the IATF issues a mandate, “susundin naming kung ano man ang maging mandato ng IATF.”

On Friday, Malacanang announced that Metro Manila, Cavite, Bulacan, Laguna and Rizal will revert to Enhanced Community Quarantine from August 6 to 20, based on the recommendation of the IATF in order to curb the spread of the more severe variant of CoVid19, the Delta virus.

In fact, starting August 1, areas covered by the NCR Plus bubble already implemented strict border checkpoints.
