Residents in areas impacted by Typhoon Betty are receiving assistance from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
Based on the report from the Disaster Response and Management Bureau (DRMB), the DSWD Field Office (FO) II in the Cagayan Valley Region has distributed food and non-food items worth P99,150 to the municipalities of Basco, Batanes; Alcala, Cagayan; and Cabagan, Isabela.
Due to the severe weather conditions caused by Typhoon Betty, 42 families or 251 individuals have sought refuge in eight evacuation centers in Region II.
In the Western Visayas Region, scattered rain showers and thunderstorms attributed to the Southwest Monsoon or 'Habagat,' amplified by Typhoon Betty, have been experienced.
Responding to the Southwest Monsoon rains in Hinoba-an, Negros Occidental, the DSWD FO VI has already dispatched humanitarian assistance amounting to P484,972 for affected families.
In preparation for potential displacement, 16 evacuation centers in Region VI stand ready to accommodate 815 families or 3,258 individuals.
DSWD spokesperson Assistant Secretary Romel Lopez emphasized that ongoing coordination with local government leaders in affected municipalities will ensure adequate relief supplies for constituents.
“DSWD disaster response teams in all affected regions remain on standby to provide technical assistance and augment resources to localities that are experiencing the effects of Typhoon Betty,” stated Assistant Secretary Lopez.
“Rest assured that all member agencies of the Disaster Response Cluster are also coordinating with their regional counterparts to ensure the smooth delivery of assistance,” he added.
