The House Committee on Human Rights invited former President Rodrigo Duterte and Sen. Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa to attend its hearing on the extrajudicial killings (EJK) during Duterte’s drug war.

The House Committee on Human Rights invited former President Rodrigo Duterte and Sen. Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa to attend its hearing on the extrajudicial killings (EJK) during Duterte’s drug war.

House Assistant Minority Leader Arlene Brosas of the Gabriela Party-list, motioned for the investigation on the previous administration’s infamous War on Drugs. At its height, officials were accused of killing individuals who were assumed to be drug suspects.

Brosas also invited former Senator Leila de Lima to testify as she faced three counts of drug charges during Duterte’s ruling. The charges were recently dismissed by the courts.

The House rights panel later adopted the motion as oppositions from some of the victim’s relatives flocked to testify against the gravity of EJK. Those who testified said they are willing to face Duterte, hoping the latter would realize what he did in the past six years.

A thousand lives were ruthlessly claimed during Duterte’s drug war; the victims’ kin repeatedly pleaded and cried for their innocence. A more compassionate governance would materialize should the testimonies be heard.
