The charter change will not be a priority but will focus instead on bills that the Filipinos need, Senate President Francis "Chiz" Escudero said during his speech for the opening of the third regular session of the 19th Congress.
"We will set aside items which merely dissipate our energy and divide the public," Escudero said during his speech on Monday, July 22.
“Pending bills on charter change placed in the backburner and will follow the ordinary and regular process of legislation," he added.
The Senate President said that the Senate's work will be constructive and not destructive.
"We will not destroy the old until we are sure that the new is better," Escudero said.
He emphasized the need to prioritize bills that both the executive and legislative sectors agreed upon. Provided that these bills will help ease the hardships of the Filipino people.
Escudero added that the Senate will ensure bills which will help the country move faster to its goals and will make the people's burden lighter.
