Former Secretary of Energy Vicente Perez Jr., stated Tuesday that while the proposed reduction in onsite work in government offices will reduce energy consumption, service delivery must not suffer.
Perez stated that he is open to a four-day work week or a four-day onsite and one-day work-from-home arrangement in government offices.
When asked about the plan's potential impact on investor perceptions of government services, Perez dismissed any concerns, noting that some companies are still implementing hybrid work arrangements similar to those in place when the pandemic hit in 2020.
Last week, Finance Secretary Benjamin Diokno stated that the DOE was considering instituting a four-day workweek to reduce power consumption and promote energy efficiency.
Another option, according to Diokno, is for employees to work four days in the office and one day at home.
He also stated that if this measure is proven to be effective, it will be implemented in other government offices.
