The Olympic dreams of Gilas Pilipinas came to an end on Saturday, July 6, after the Filipinos fell to Brazil, 71-60, during the semifinals of the qualfiers in Latvia.
Justin Brownlee scored 15 points, and Dwight Ramos added 13 points for the Philippine national men's basketball team that went up by 12 points during the first half of the match.
Brazil took the lead, 41-33, after starting the third quarter with a 12-point scoring run,
In the final quarter, Bruno Cabocio scored five straight points to extend the lead of Brazil, 61-46, before a three-point basket by Brownlee stopped the bleeding.
Cabocio finished with 15 points and 11 rebounds while Marcelinho Huertas registered 13 points for Brazil to secure a spot in the finals of 2024 Olympic Qualifying Tournament.
The loss put an end to the cinderella run of Gilas Pilipinas in the Olympic qualifiers that kicked off with a 89-80 win against Latvia, the number six ranked team in the world FIBA rankings.
