The Gilas Pilipinas Women exceeded expectations by powering through the main draw and securing a spot in the knockout quarterfinals against Chinese Taipei, scheduled for Sunday, March 31 at the Singapore Sports Hub for the FIBA 3X3 Asia Cup 2024.
Their journey to the quarterfinals has been impressive, winning all five of their assignments thus far. This includes three victories in the qualifying round and two in the preliminaries.
Notably, their opponent in the quarterfinals, Chinese Taipei, gave China a tough fight in the main draw before eventually losing in overtime.
The PH team's performance in the qualifying round was particularly dominant, with convincing wins over Tahiti (21-3), Maldives (19-11), and Kazakhstan (21-12).
Moving into the preliminary round, they faced crucial matches against Mongolia and Malaysia, emerging victorious in both encounters.
Against Mongolia, standout performances from players like Jhazmin Joson, Kaye Pingol, and Camille Clarin led to a comfortable 19-8 win.
In their match against Malaysia, the team displayed balanced scoring and effective defense, securing a fifth straight win with a final score of 17-10. Despite some misfires on two-pointers, their inside game and turnovers forced upon the Malaysians provided them with an advantage.
With all five victories behind them, Gilas Pilipinas Women are now preparing to face Chinese Taipei in what promises to be a challenging yet exciting matchup.
