A grassfire was seen at the southwest tip of Taal Volcano Island on Thursday evening, May 2, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported.

Based on the PHIVOLCS monitoring, the grassfire occurred where DOST-PHIVOLCS' Binintiang Munti Observation Station (VTBM) is situated, which started at 6:40 p.m..

The state seismologist said the grass frequently occurs in the area.

On March 4, a grassfire was also reported in the VTBM, but no damages were reported.

Meanwhile, Taal Volcano remains under alert level 1 based on Phivolcs’s latest advisory.
