The Southwest Monsoon, locally known as Habagat, is expected to bring cloudy skies and rain to several areas of the country on Wednesday, particularly in Northern and Central Luzon, according to a report from PAGASA.

In its 4 a.m. weather bulletin, PAGASA stated that the Ilocos Region, Batanes, and Babuyan Islands will experience cloudy skies accompanied by scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the southwest monsoon.

The Cordillera Administrative Region, Central Luzon, and the rest of Cagayan Valley will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms, also attributed to the southwest monsoon.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country can expect partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms caused by localized thunderstorms.

No typhoon observed within the PAR

During an interview on Magandang Umaga Pilipinas early Wednesday, weather forecaster Obet Badrina confirmed that no low-pressure area is currently observed within the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

However, a tropical cyclone, Severe Tropical Storm Ampil, was spotted outside the PAR as of 3 p.m. It is located approximately 1,895 kilometers east-northeast of extreme northern Luzon, with maximum sustained winds of 110 kilometers per hour near its center and gustiness of up to 135 kilometers per hour.

The storm is moving northeastward at a slow pace.
