The House of Representatives' quad committee will invite Davao City First District Representative Paolo Duterte, son of former President Rodrigo Duterte, and Atty. Mans Carpio, husband of Vice President Sara Duterte, along with others allegedly involved in the 2018 seized shabu shipment.
House Committee on Human Rights Chairperson and Manila Manila 6th District Representative Bienvenido Abante Jr. moved to invite key personalities involved.
The motion to invite the personalities involved was approved during the first joint public hearing of the committees on dangerous drugs, public order and safety, human rights, and public accounts held in Bacolor, Pampanga yesterday, August 16.
The motion stemmed from a statement by former Bureau of Customs (BOC) officer Jimmy Guban, which identified Paolo Duterte, Atty. Mans Carpio, and Michael Yang as key figures involved in the shipment.
Aside from Duterte and Carpio, Former Davao Councilor Nilo Abellara Jr., Former Environment Undersecretary Benny Antiporda, and Paul Gutierrez will also be invited to the next committee hearing.
Furthermore, lawmakers have also pushed to transfer Guban from the New Bilibid Prison to a different detention facility.
The quad comm is led by four Committee Chairpersons including Surigao del Norte 2nd District Representative Ace Barbers, Manila 6th District Representative Bienvenido Abante Jr., Abang Lingkod Representative Caraps Paduano, and Santa Rosa, Laguna Representative Dan Fernandez.
The committee was formed to investigate the connections between the illegal drug trade, Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs), and extrajudicial killings in the country during the Duterte Administration.
