The hunger rate in the Philippines has seen a drop in the past three months compared to the data recorded in June, according to the recent Social Weather Station (SWS) survey.
In a data released on Tuesday, the pollster said that the percentage of Filipino families who experienced hunger and not having anything to eat in September slowed down to 9.7 percent — a sharp drop from 10.4 percent in June 2023.
"The 0.6-point decline in Overall Hunger between June 2023 and September 2023 was due to declines in the Visayas and Balance Luzon, combined with a rise in Metro Manila and a steady score in Mindanao," SWS said in a statement.
According to SWS, Metro Manila recorded the highest hunger rate from 15.7 percent in the previous quarter to 7.3 percent. It was followed by Balance Luzon at 10.3 percent, Visayas at 6.7 percent and Mindanao's hunger rate also rose from 6.3 percent.
Of the total percentage, 8.4 percent said they experienced Moderate Hunger or those who experienced hunger "Only Once" or "A Few Times" in the last three months while 1.3 percent said they experienced Severe Hunger or those who experienced hunger "Often" or "Always" in the previous three months.
The poll was conducted from Sept. 28 to Oct. 1 using face-to-face interviews of 1,200 adults across the country.
