Kabalikat ng Mamamayan (Kabayan) party-list Rep. Ron Salo recommended to Congress to appoint a new Dengue Czar as the dengue cases in the country continue to soar.

In a report by RH 12 Milky Rigonan on MBC Network News, Salo explained that just like the appointment of a COVID-19 Czar amid the pandemic; there is also a need to appoint an official who will focus on the surge of dengue cases.

On July 26, Salo filed a House Resolution 79 that aims to direct the House Committee on Health to investigate the anti-dengue and patient care programs of the Department of Health (DOH) to immediately curb the rising cases and death of dengue and to protect public health.

He mentioned probing the National Dengue and Control Program (NDCP) that was formed by DOH to decrease the morbidity and mortality rate or deaths caused by dengue.

Salo expressed his concern about the rising cases of dengue, especially in provinces. He cited that the DOH reported 5,057 dengue cases with 31 deaths as of July 16 in the Western Visayas.

He said the provincial government of Antique and Negros Oriental, both declared a state of calamity due to the surge of dengue cases.
