Singer Kris Lawrence defended TV host-vlogger Alex Gonzaga after she was slammed by netizens for smearing cake frosting on a waiter's face during the recent celebration of her 35th birthday.

The now-deleted 12-second video, originally uploaded by Dani Barretto on her Instagram story, showed the waiter holding a chocolate cake in front of Alex and her husband, Lipa City councilor Mikee Morada.

After blowing out the candles on her birthday cake, Gonzaga proceeded to dip one hand into the chocolate frosting before smearing it on the server’s face.

This did not sit well with the netizens, who Gonzaga's behavior as rude and disrespectful.

However, Lawrence sees this as a "normal thing" to happen during birthday celebrations.

"So now its bad to put cake on someone's face during birthday? I thought that was a normal thing," he wrote in his Instagram story on Tuesday.

On the same day, Lawrence also commented under the Instagram post of a media outlet regarding the issue, saying that people will always have "something to say."

"Let's fast forward and after this event that waiter that just went viral, will probably get 'something' after, and A LOT of sympathy," he wrote.

"Most recognition he ever got as a waiter. So after all the noise… I’m sure he will be grateful that this happened. Looks like people just like to extract the negative out of things instead of the positive," he added.

This further sparked rage from the netizens who tagged Lawrence's comment as "out of touch."

Several users countered his comment but he still went on saying that everything just goes down to intention and in that situation, Alex’s intention was to have fun at the cost of someone’s situation.
