The death toll from Severe Tropical Storm Kristine jumped to 81, affecting over 4.2 million Filipinos, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported.
As of 8:00 AM on Saturday, October 26, the NDRRMC situational report found that 81 casualties were reported dead, 66 are injured, while 34 are missing. The data reflected a huge rise in numbers compared to their report on Friday.
Out of the 81 reported deaths, only one has been verified; The same goes for the 34 reported missing.
Meanwhile, out of the 4.2 million affected Filipinos, 986,974 families were affected. Data from the NDRRMC found that the affected individuals came from the 16 regions that were hit by the severe tropical storm.
The NDRRMC's report also showed that Kristine caused floods across 574 areas across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
The estimated cost of damaged infrastructures amounts to PHP 203.8 million, spanning from roads, bridges, schools, and other facilities.
Meanwhile, figures from the Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) on Saturday showed that most of the reported deaths were in CALABARZON at 48, followed by the Bicol Region with 28.
A few days earlier, a 60-day price freeze was implemented in the storm-hit areas to maintain the stable prices of necessities.
In PAGASA's tropical cyclone bulletin on Thursday, October 24, they mentioned that Kristine may loop over the West Philippine Sea (WPS) on Sunday and Monday, citing its potential to re-enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR)
