As the week-long jeepney strike begins today, local government units (LGUs) began the deployment of vehicles that will be offering free rides to commuters on Monday, March 6.

Manila

In a Facebook post, the Manila City government announced that it will implement “Libreng Sakay” services to aid commuters affected by the transportation strike.

The city government said that aside from free e-trike rides, it will deploy 10 buses, 17 pick-up trucks, three trucks, two transporters, and one command unit along the following routes:

  • Vito Cruz – Taft Avenue to Quezon Blvd
  • Espana Blvd to Mabuhay Rotonda
  • Abad Santos Avenue to R. Papa – Rizal Avenue
  • UN -Taft Ave to R. Papa Rizal Avenue
  • C.M. Recto Ave. to SM Sta Mesa
  • UN- Taft Ave to P. Ocampo St
  • Monumento Rizal Ave to Divisoria
  • Buendia – Taft Ave to Divisoria
  • Buendia -Taft Ave to Monumento Rizal Ave
  • Buendia -Taft Ave to Welcome Rotonda

The libreng sakay will operate from 5 AM to 10 AM and 4 PM to 10 PM.

Muntinlupa

On Friday, Mayor Ruffy Biazonordered the deployment of Flexi-trucks, city buses, e-jeeps, and service vehicles of the city’s police force for free ride services, from 5 AM to 9 PM.

Below is the city’s list of routes with “Libreng Sakay” services:

  • RMT to Alabang Viaduct and vice versa (National Road)
  • Alabang Viaduct to Sucat and vice versa (East Service Road)
  • South Station to Sucat and vice versa (West Service Road)
  • South Station to Buencamino and vice versa (Alabang-Zapote Road)
  • Biazon Road (Southville III)
  • Sucat to Poblacion and vice versa (Baybayin)

Pasig

Pasig City, likewise, rolled out Libreng Sakay in at least five routes:

  • Pasig Mega Market to Shaw Boulevard (Vice Versa)
  • Pasig Mega Market to Ligaya via Dr. Sixto Antonio Ave. (Vice Versa)
  • Pasig Mega Market to Kalawaan to San Joaquin to Pasig Mega Market (Loop)
  • Pasig Mega Market to Ligaya via C. Raymundo Ave. (Vice Versa)
  • Pasig Mega Market to Dr. Sixto Antonio Ave. to Rosario to C. Raymundo Ave. to Pasig Mega Market (Loop)

Its free rides will operate from 5 AM to 10 AM, 11 AM to 2 PM, and 3 PM to 9 PM from March 6 to 12.

Caloocan City

Caloocan City announced on Friday it will offer free ride services to its locals in the following routes in the city’s north and south areas:

North Caloocan

  • Phase 10 Bagong Silang to SM Fairview via Zapote Maligaya (and vice versa)
  • Phase 10 Bagong Silang to Almar to Novaliches Bayan (and vice versa)
  • Phase 1 Bagong Silang to SM Fairview via Zapote Maligaya
  • Phase 1 Bagong Silang to Almar to Novaliches Bayan
  • Phase 5 Bagong Silang to SM Fairview
  • Phase 5 Bagong Silang to Almar to Novaliches Bayan
  • Almar to Novaliches Bayan
  • Almar to SM Fairview
  • Malaria to SM Fairview
  • Vicas to Novaliches Bayan

South Caloocan

  • MCU to Letre
  • MCU to Valenzuela

Quezon City

The Quezon City LGU said its QCity Buses with free Wi-Fi onboard service eight routes:

  • QC Hall to Cubao
  • QC Hall to Litex / IBP Road
  • Welcome Rotonda to Aurora Katipunan
  • QC Hall to General Luis
  • QC Hall to Mindanao Ave. via Visayas Ave.
  • QC Hall to Gilmore

  • QC Hall to Muñoz

On Monday, the week-long transportation strike of some groups to opposed the national govenrment's move to phaseout traditional jeepneys and UV express commenced, affecting commuters in several parts of the Metro.

Last week, several transport groups announced their participation in the nationwide strike that will be from March 6-12 regardless of the extension in the franchise consolidation as announced by the Land Transportation Franchising Board (LTRB).

Transport group Pinagkaisang Samahan ng mga Tsuper at Operators Nationwide (Piston) also staged a protest at Monumento Circle in Caloocan, calling the government to suspend the planned public utility vehicle modernization program (PUV-MP).
