Olympic gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz is the cover girl for the 20th-anniversary issue of fashion and lifestyle magazine Tatler Philippines.
"As the Philippines’ first-ever Olympic gold medalist since it joined the Olympics 97 years ago, the Zamboanga-born weightlifting champion embodies the same excellence and influence that define this premier luxury magazine in the Philippines today. She narrates her losses and wins in life, and how her passion and perseverance kept her eyes on the prize," Tatler said in its teaser for the issue.
Diaz was glammed by celebrity stylist Liz Uy and was shot by veteran photographer Mark Nicdao.
“She’s a cover girl. Our country’s pride, gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz,” Uy wrote in an Instagram post. “What an honor to be part of this. #GotTheGold”

Diaz made history as the first-ever Filipina to bring home a gold medal last July 26 in Tokyo Olympics. She delivered the victory by lifting a total of 224 kilograms in the women’s 55 kilograms weightlifting competition in Tokyo.
She also recorded a 97kg in the snatch and an Olympic record 127kg in the clean and jerk for a total of 224kg, which was also an Olympic record.
Meanwhile, Diaz revealed she was ecstatic after seeing her photos as she shared some on her Instagram page.
“Sa birthday ni Mama Mary, feeling ko ang ganda ko rito,” the Olympian said. “Sa gitna ng napakaraming challenges, nangyayari ang dapat mangyari nang maganda, mahusay at mabuti! Pagod ako nu’ng kinunan ito pero sobrang saya ko!”
