The LRT-1 will temporarily halt its operations for three weekends, starting August 17, to accelerate the preparations for the target LRT-1 Cavite Extension phase 1, the Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) announced on Friday.
The three-weekend suspension would give way for extension operations and integrate the existing system of LRT-1 with the Cavite Extension.
LRMC said that they will be conducting a system migration, to ensure the safety and reliability of the extended system. They stressed that the operational exercises to be performed are crucial to the extension’s efficiency.
"We understand the inconvenience this may cause to our passengers; however, we would like to assure that the temporary closures will result to long-term convenience once the extended LRT-1 line becomes operational. We are working diligently to complete this project as safely, efficiently, and quickly as possible,” LRMC General Manager Enrico Benipayo assured.
The temporary closure will be implemented on the following weekends (Saturday to Sunday):
- August 17-18
- August 24-25
- Aguust 31-September 1
No commercial train service will be available from Fernando Poe Jr. Station to Baclaran Station during the said dates.
According to the LRMC, the LRT-1 Cavite Extension Phase 1 is reaching its 99 percent completion rate as of May 2024. The five new stations under Phase 1 from Redemptorist-Aseana Station to Dr. Santos (formerly Sucat) Station will integrate the same operations as the existing stations in LRT-1.
“During the temporary weekend closure of LRT-1, commuters are advised to plan their trips accordingly and utilize alternative transportation options such as buses, EDSA Carousel, and jeepneys," the LRMC said in an announcement.
"LRMC has coordinated with LTFRB for the provision of additional buses, as well as requested additional traffic enforcers and crowd control measures from MMDA and local government partners,” the LRMC wrote in their announcement," it added.
Details on the alternative transportation options will be announced to the public in the next few days.
