Starting July 1, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) will no longer have a backlog of driver's license cards and license plates for newly bought cards since the agency now has a sufficient supply of plastic cards.
"By July 1 of this year, dapat wala na po backlog and we can see na on track tayo diyan. ‘Yung mga nag-expire ng April 30, nagre-renew na po ang kanilang cards pati ‘yung last year; tuloy-tuloy po ang pag-renew ng kanilang cards," LTO chief Assistant Secretary Vigor Mendoza II said in a Palace briefing on Tuesday.
"Humigit kumulang mga 9.7 million cards, na-bid out na po yan ng DOTr (Department of Transportation) at LTO," he continued.
Mendoza said holders of paper driver’s licenses should go to their local LTOs and get their plastic driver’s license cards.
He likewise assured those who bought vehicles from 2022 to 2024 will already have their license plates.
The LTO official said the DOTr was able to bid out 9.7 million plastic cards for driver’s licenses, whose issuance has been repeatedly delayed in the past year following a supply shortage and several procedural setbacks.
On the other hand, Mendoza revealed that the backlog for motorcycle license plates remained at 11.4 million from the previous administration, which they intend to bring down to zero by June 2025.
President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. commended the recent development.
"It seems you have the problem in hand. We can accelerate the target for the motorcycle plates. Best efforts. ‘Wag lang tayo lalampas sa June 30 next year. Sana mas maaga pa," Marcos said in a statement.
