A magnitude 6.4 earthquake jolted the province of Abra on late Tuesday evening and was felt in other areas in Luzon, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).

In an advisory, Phivolcs said the quake occurred around 10:59 pm and the epicenter was located 7 kilometers northwest of Tineg, Abra.

The state seismologist initially reported a magnitude of 6.7 but was downgraded later to 6.4.

Phivolcs said the quake intensities was felt in the following areas:

  • Intensity V- Sinait, Ilocos Sur
  • Intensity IV - Baguio City

  • Intensity II - Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya; Urdaneta, Dagupan City, Pangasinan; Madella, Quirino
  • Intensity I - Dinalupihan, Bataan; Bulakan, Calumpit, Malolos City, Plaridel, Bulacan; Pasig City, Navotas City; Cabanatuan City and San Jose, Nueva Ecija; Guagua, Pampanga; Umingan, Sison, Bolinao, Infanta, and Bani, Pangasinan; Polillo, Mauban, and Infanta, Quezon; Tanay and Taytay, Rizal; Ramos, Tarlac; Iba, Zambales

Reported Damages

In La Paz in Abra, portions of the decades-old Aglipayan Church — Iglesia Filipina Independiente Belfry reportedly collapsed due to the earthquake.

The Arch in Marcos Town, Abra, was seen partially destroyed.

In Batac, Ilocos Norte, the Mariano Marcos Memorial Hospital and Medical Center reportedly sustained damages.

Some medical equipment was seen destroyed, and parts of the hospital roof had fallen and blocked the entrance of an Isolation Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Several patients were evacuated and seen staying outside the hospital area.

The Santa Barbara Ruins in Sarrat, Ilocos Norte was also reportedly damaged.
