Malaysian Embassy Art Expo: a reflection of 60 years of friendship between Malaysia and PH

MANILA – The Embassy of Malaysia in Manila announced the launching of an Art Expo, in conjunction with the celebration of 60 years of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and the Philippines.

In a news release from the Embassy, it stated that the Art Expo, slated on August 30 to September 1, 2024, will feature artworks of Malaysian and Filipino artists, with the theme “Celebrating Friendship Through Art – A Kaleidoscope of 60 Years of Diplomatic Relations Between Malaysia and the Philippines.”

Featured artists from Malaysia are Dato Prof Tajuddin Ismail, SC Shekar, Juhari Said, Anniketyni Madian, and Syahbandi Samat, while the Filipino participating artists are Anthony Palomo, Ramon Orlina, Fracisco Guerrero, Dennis Bato, and Niakie.

The Malaysian Embassy also revealed other exciting lineup of activities during the art exhibition, such as cultural performances by the Touché Production from Malaysia; and panel discussions with the featured artists.

On 31 August 2024, the panel discussion will delve on the Perspectives on Contemporary Southeast Asian Art while Perspectives on Contemporary Photography from Two Generations of Photography will be the focus of the discussion on 1 September 2024.

The opening ceremony will be held on 30 August 2024, with His Excellency Dato’ Abdul Malik Melvin Castelino, Ambassador of Malaysia to the Republic of the Philippines; Hon. Abigail S. Binay-Campos, Mayor of Makati City; government officials, members of the diplomatic corps and other dignitaries are expected to grace the opening ceremony.

The Embassy of Malaysia hopes that through the art expo, visitors will be able to appreciate Filipino and Malaysian art; and to open more doors for collaborations between Malaysia and the Philippines in the field of arts.

The Art Expo is free and open to the public.
