Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is set to meet President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr., his Philippine counterpart, on Wednesday, according to top Philippine officials.

In an interview, the country's top diplomats confirmed that Anwar will be in the country for a one-day official visit for the first time since he was sworn in as Malaysia's 10th prime minister in November 2022.

Prior to this, Anwar said that both countries, Malaysia and the Philippines, have "always enjoyed strong cooperation on bilateral, regional, and multilateral forums."

The two leaders are expected to discuss how to further strengthen political, economic and security ties between their two countries, as well as pressing regional and global issues.
